Some women rights activists, such as Shirin Ebadi and Simin Behbahani met and Talked with some MPs about the Family Protection Bill

Feminist School: At noon Sunday august 31 2008 some women rights activists together with some artists , writers, teachers , university students , lawyers , doctors , some activists of 1 million signatures campaign such as feminist school group , Iranian women’s focus , women’s field group, journalists , sports women . House wives, mothers for peace, and some women from religious group are meeting and negotiating with some MPs while expressing their objection to the family protection bill demanded that the said bill have to be dismissed of agenda. Among the protesting women were:

Shrin Ebadi a lawyer who is Nobel peace prize winner, Simin Behbahani poet and writer, Azam Taleghani general secretary of women’s Islamic revolution society Elahe koolayi a previous MP some activists lawyer such as Nasrin Sotoudeh , Farideh Gheyrat, Zohreh Arzani , Shadi Sadr , Giti Poorfazel , Maryam Kiyanersi ,Roza Gharachorlou , who have defended so many women rights activists , university students , journalists , social activists at courts attended in the meeting too .

Mansoureh Shojaee (Feminist School group) ,Zhila Baniyaghoub (Iranian women’s focus), Fakhri Mohtashami , Farideh Mashini and Shahla Molaverdi members of Islamic Iran participation front and Asiyeh Amini , Mahboubeh Abbasgholizadeh (women’s field), Khadijeh Moghadam , Minoo Mortazi Langroudi , Fatemeh Govarayi , Zhila Shariatpanahi , Laleh Sedigh attended the meeting too .

also some representatives from cultural groups such as human rights commission , talashgaran salamat society , Children’s writer association and some social activists from Hamedan and Isfahan and some university students activists are attended the meeting too .

The family protection bill which the parliament was discussing had been initially prepared and proposed by Iran judiciary however the cabinet add and omit some articles hence judiciary and women’s activists widely object to it.

The proposed resolution by the government for the family protection bill (article 23) gives a man the right to take a second wife without the consent of the first wife

And also introducing a taxation system on the alimony

The said meeting was held at people’s meeting room .the common demand of all the women who attended the meeting is to dismiss the bill from agenda.

At the time being the said bill has been dismissed from the agenda .some MPs announced that the said bill has been dismissed from the agenda for the time being meanwhile Mr. Larijani, the leader of Iranian parliament stated that there was some deficiency in the bill hence the bill should be returned to judiciary commission of parliament.
